Words Matter ~ Now More Than Ever *Trigger Warning ~ The topic is on Suicide*
Updated: Mar 30, 2020
𝗪𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫.... of course they do, but sometimes it’s hard to comprehend how much. If they didn’t matter, I wouldn’t have to consider adding a trigger warning to this post.
Think about it?
How many times have you ruminated over a hurtful comment for days? I'm writing this post because I'm both outraged and saddened by what has happened to Caroline Flack. Suicide is an epidemic folks, and we need to WISE UP!
I'm always saying how powerful words can be. If we can learn anything from this, it's that! It appears that social media and the press have played a huge part in this vulnerable woman's story. I’m certain there will be more to this, we may never know and ultimately the only person who knows is now gone.
It's not for me to give my opinion on what caused her death, I can only imagine the pain her loved ones are going through, do they really need to be reading the opinions of strangers?
Mental Health is not something to shy away from. Bullying and abuse can cause lasting damage. Suicide ~ well, it's forever. Until you have lost someone to suicide you can't grasp the reality of its everlasting impact.
How it never fades, raises questions that will never be answered, the guilt that is born and anger that rises, oh and so much more.
Can we take charge now, folks? Can we stop the gossip? How about rewriting the conversation?
I'm conscious that I may sound self-righteous but to be frank, I don't care. I'm tired of hearing about someone ending their life because of bullying or abuse. I'm over, being cynical, sick and tired of knowing these deaths could have been prevented. I'm beyond accepting this is part of our society. I refuse to shrug it off and pretend.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝗪𝐄 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞?
🔸Reach out, ask them how they are? Start a conversation.
🔹Don't take on their pain, there are professionals that can help. Having them, can help you support your loved one.
🔸If you see someone being taunted or shamed online or in person, report it.
🔹Stand Up for them. Be an ally.
🔸Encourage others to report messages of bullying, the more of us that can call bull on this the better.
🔹Think, before you speak and absolutely before you type. If words can hurt and take a life, Imagine how powerful that makes them?
💥Use words to save a life instead.
